A year after announcing plans to build a casino in D'Iberville, additional land has been purchased. The Wind Creek casino project is owned by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.

Just west of Interstate 110, the site of the former Royal D'Iberville was bought by the tribe in March of last year. Recently more land was purchased in D'Iberville's Back Bay. The additional land will provide the tribe with two potential legal locations for a casino. The total amount of land owned is 34 acres.

It will take about six months to complete research of the local market and talk to focus groups before making any decisions for the proposed casino.

A casino gaming floor of a minimum of 40,000 square feet, restaurants, and a hotel with at least 300 guest rooms are required by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.

The proposed Wind Creek Casino would operate Class III slot machines. The tax rate is 12% of the gaming revenues since the casino would not be located on tribal land. That is the same tax rate that the other casinos in the area pay. The money will go to the area schools, municipality, and the state.
