A year after announcing plans to build a casino in D'Iberville, additional land
has been purchased. The Wind Creek casino project is owned by the Poarch Band of
Just west of Interstate 110, the site of the former Royal D'Iberville was bought
by the tribe in March of last year. Recently more land was purchased in
D'Iberville's Back Bay. The additional land will provide the tribe with two
potential legal locations for a casino. The total amount of land owned is 34
It will take about six months to complete research of the local market and talk
to focus groups before making any decisions for the proposed casino.
A casino gaming floor of a minimum of 40,000 square feet, restaurants, and a
hotel with at least 300 guest rooms are required by the Mississippi Gaming
The proposed Wind Creek Casino would operate Class III slot machines. The tax
rate is 12% of the gaming revenues since the casino would not be located on
tribal land. That is the same tax rate that the other casinos in the area pay.
The money will go to the area schools, municipality, and the state.
