Casino revenue will continue to be given to the school system in Greenville.
The 2013-14 fiscal budget was approved recently by the city. It is estimated
that schools could receive from the casinos $145,550. The city is planning on
earning $1.57 million in total from the casinos.
A law that was approved in 1992 allowed for personal funds or money for
education programs to be donated by the cities. 14.2 percent of Greenville's
revenue from casinos had been given to the schools.
In 2012 a new law was approved. The new law stopped the disbursements. Stating
that the the money be used to help character development or programs of public
service in the school district.
