Tunica County may not be the home of the 4 new casinos that are being planned.
The Gulf Coast is expected to be the location of 1 new casino. The rest may be
built in Mississippi.
This is due to the Tunica gaming industry's lack of significant growth. Experts
have reported that the Tunica area is in need of industry other than gaming.
That there also needs to be stronger attractions for tourists before more
casinos are built there.
The Gulf Coast has seen areas of growth beginning new possibilities. Jimmy
Buffet's Margaritaville Casino will be located on Biloxi's back bay. It's due to
open at the years end.
Visits over all to the casinos have dropped from 2007's 17.4 million to 9.6
million in 2009. The number of visitors from out of state have also declined.
However, Mississippi has seen a 30% increase in guests. This adds to the
attractiveness of a new location to build the casinos.
