A former racetrack will soon be the home of a future casino and retail
center. Approval has been given for the project to proceed.
The Little River Band will be the owners of the new casino project. The Great
Lakes Downs race track was bought with the intention of transforming it into a
casino. the property is located in Muskegon County.
The proposed casino was denied in the past by the governor. However on Friday
approval was granted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs allowing the tribe to apply
for the property be put into trust.
If everything is approved for the Little River Band, this will be the sixth
casino for the state. It is projected to cost $100 million to complete. However,
it still may be a few more years before the tribe is given final approval to
build.
