July 13, 2011
Revenues have been consistently rising for three Detroit casinos. A report for
the state recently released there was a 3.2 percent increase seen in June. There
was also for 2011's first six months, an increase of 3.1 percent.
In comparison, gaming facilities last year earned $109.8 a year ago. June of
this year earned $113.3 million.
Greektown Casino Hotel earned almost $29 million. Revenue from this casino has
risen 7.1 percent. Making this the largest revenue earner in its market share.
It also is the smallest gaming facility in Detroit.
The MGM Detroit is the largest casino in Detroit. The gaming facility had
revenues of $47.5 million. This was 2.8 percent higher than June of last year.
$36.8 million was earned by MotorCity Casino Hotel. This equals an 0.8 percent
increase.
The three Detroit area casinos have had a successful year so far. This may be
due to the growing economy in the state. However, it is unclear if people are
going to the casinos because of the growing economy, or the casino free play.
Currently state law offers gaming incentives. This includes free play offered by
the casinos.
