Plans have been announced for a new $3.2 million casino to be built in Mackinaw
City by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians.
Construction is scheduled to begin in September. The opening date is expected to
be by May 2016.
The casino will be 5,000 square feet when completed. In addition, there are
plans for a hotel with 130 guest rooms and an RV park.
Before the tribe can break ground on the project, Mackinaw City must first give
approval. This is based on the gaming compact between the tribe and state.
The location of the new casino is the previous Thunder Falls Family Water Park,
which was purchased in 2012.
