WAYLAND, MI - The Gun Lake Tribe can go ahead with plans to build a $200 million
casino in Wayland Township after a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit by a former
Wayland Township trustee against the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The lawsuit sought to prevent the federal transfer of land into trust for the
Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians, but the transaction was
completed earlier this year and proclaimed a reservation earlier this month by
Department of Indian Affairs Assistant Secretary Echo Hawk.
