Plainridge Park Casino opened in July 2015 near the Rhode Island boarder as a
slots only gaming venue. Gaming and non gaming revenue for the first year was
$172.5 million. $100 million of the amount was spent by Massachusetts residents
that if the casino was not built, they would have spent their money at a casino
in a different state.
It is not know what alternative casino the money would have been spent at.
However it is possible it may have been at Twin River Casino in Rhode Island.
The casino is less than 20 miles from Plainridge.
In addition, $36 million of the first year revenue is money that would have been
spent in other locations in Massachusetts.
Guests from out of state account for the remaining revenue amount.
