Residents of Brockton will soon be deciding on a proposed casino. The casino will be built at the Brockton fairgrounds for $650 million. The property is 45 acres. Along with the casino, there will also be a hotel with 225 guest rooms and restaurants.

In order for the proposed casino to receive the state's third gaming license, voters must approve the project. A special election is being held on Tuesday.

Somerset and New Bedford are also competing for the gaming license.

Springfield's $800 million MGM will be opening in 2017. Everett's $1.7 billion Wynn Resort is expected to open a year later.

The plan is for $3 million will also be paid initially to the city by the developer. Once the casino is in operation, $10 million a year will be paid to the city.

If the Brockton casino is approved 1,400 jobs will be created for the construction. 1,500 permanent jobs will also be created. Preference in hiring will go first to Brockton residents.
