With the release of 4 new gaming licenses, it appears that Boston will not be
receiving one of them.
Boston has one of the highest populations in the state. As well as being the
state's capitol. It was expected that at least one of the new gaming licenses
would be awarded to the area.
One slot parlor and three new casino licenses have been approved to be released.
Caesars Entertainment Corp, who partnered with Suffolk Downs, was expected to be
awarded a license for a Boston casino. Mayor Tom Menino was also behind the
project. However, that project did not happen.
Reasons for this was due to lack of agreement from Commission investigators.
Also the proposed casino was denied by voters.
A $1.4 billion casino is being proposed to be built in nearby Everett. The
project is being proposed by Wynn Resorts. This may also contribute to Boston
not receiving a casino license.
