On Tuesday Rhode Island will vote on an proposed casino. The casino is the MGM
Springfield. It is estimated that 25% of the registered voters will vote.
Opponents to the proposed casino have been marketing by use of calling voter's
phones and mailing them. In addition to also visiting the homes of the voters.
If the project is approved by voters, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission will
consider the casino project next. Three casinos will be considered by the state.
Other possible casino locations include West Springfield. A Hard Rock
International is being proposed there. Also in Palmer there could be a new
casino. That proposed casino would be owned by the Mohegan Sun.
Slot parlors are also being considered by the state.
The proposed MGM Springfield is an estimated $800 million project.
