Currently annual audits for Iowa casinos are publicly released. However a some
of the state's casino owners are asking for the reports to remain private.
There are 19 casinos that are regulated by the state of Iowa. A joint lawsuit
has been filed by 16 of them to stop their financial reports from being
The president of the Iowa Gaming Association, Wes Ehreke, believes that when the
reports are released to the public, certain trade secrets are also released.
Over $312 million was paid last year in gaming taxes by the casinos. Charities
have been paid close to $40 million.
The reports are used to collect information to determine how the gaming industry
is doing. Groups that are most interested in the reports are the charities that
rely on the contributions made from gaming taxes.
