A new casino proposal was submitted before Iowa Legislature. The bill would
allow for two additional casinos. However, the casinos must not allow smoking.
The bill was introduced on Monday.
August 1 of this year has been set as the deadline for interested developers to
apply for the gaming licenses. Approval would come from the counties that would
host the new casinos.
A yearly report on the impact of smoke free casinos would be required by the
Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
In April 2014, the IRGC rejected plans for a casino to be built in Linn County.
However, Mayor Ron Corbett from Cedar Rapids, stated that there will be changes
made to the state's gaming laws. That there will also be a license for a smoke
free casino in Linn County as well. That announcement was made in December.
