An order was given by the Iowa Supreme Court that the casino ship, Argosy Sioux
City, must close on
Wednesday by 5PM. The ruling was given on Friday.
Previously, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission ruled against the casino. Penn
National Gaming operates the casino. The company filed an appeal to the state
Supreme Court. However, the court sided with the gaming commission.
The casino employees 250 people.
The Argosy opened in 1989. It is known to be one of the last Iowa casino river
boats. Land based casino were approved in 2007.
It is uncertain what will happen to the boat. It has two decks used for the
gaming floor. As well as a barge that is used for a restaurant and office space.
