TALLAHASSEE, FL - The Florida senate voted 27-11 to approve a video lottery bill to allow video lottery terminals in all pari-mutuels. The video terminals are not Las Vegas-style slot machines like those currently operated in three Broward pari-mutuels and seven Indian casinos. These are a type of slot with players competing against each other.
The bill is expected to raise up to $500 million a year for public schools, but it faces likely defeat in the House where Speaker Marco Rubio adamantly opposes any gambling expansion in Florida.
