MGM Resorts International is interested in developing a location in Connecticut.
The company is working towards a Massachusetts location. However the company
believes there are several options for an additional location in Connecticut
that would be 50 miles away from the Springfield location.
In the 1990's Bridgeport was a potential candidate for a casino. Two local
tribes have also recently stated that the city would be an ideal location for
their proposed joint casino venture. On Tuesday, MGM filed papers stating that
the city would also be of interest to the company for their proposed casino.
Recently a law had gone into effect that created a multi-step process for tribes
that are interested in developing a casino. MGM believes that the law is
unconstitutional. The new law is preventing MGM from proceeding with their
MGM is not allowed to develop another casino within 50 miles of Springfield
under Massachusetts gaming law.
