A ceremony was held to break ground on the new $226 million expansion project at the Sycuan Casino-Resort. The Sycuan band of the Kumeyaay Nation own the casino resort.
The project will add 60,000 to the gaming space. 80 game tables, 2,500 Class III machines, and 300 Class II machines will be added to the expanded casino area.
There will also be a new hotel that will be 12 stories designed with wood, stone, and glass. Near the hotel will be a pool and garden area. There will be 300 guest rooms and 50 suites. 8,451 square feet will be added for a spa and fitness center.
A ballroom and event space will be 11,401 square feet. It will be able to accommodate 700 people for banquet seating. 1,200 seats for concerts.
Fine dining and casual fast dining will offer some new eating options. A new brew house will be in place of the former GameDay Sports bar & Grill.
It took 18 months to finalize the designs for the expansion project.
