Construction continues of the new $30 million Rain Rock Casino project near Yreka. The Karuk Tribe owns the casino.
When opened, there will be 8 game tables and 500 electronic gaming machines. The square footage is 36,000. There will also be a restaurant with 100 seats. 300 jobs will be created when open.
In 2004 the tribe began working on the casino project. They faced many obstacles. Including the process of agreeing on a gaming compact between the tribe and state of California.
Profits from the casino will go to pay off the loan for construction. In time the money could go to assist with tribal social service and health care programs.
Future plans for the casino include a hotel with 80 guest rooms and additional parking.
The casino is expected to open summer of 2017.
