A compact between tribe and California has been signed by Governor Jerry Brown.
The compact could allow for Amador County to have a casino.
67 acres in Ione have long been planned for a future casino for the Buena Vista
Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians. The use of the land has been in the middle of legal
issues with opponents to the proposed casino site stating that the land is not a
legal reservation. This would make a casino there illegal.
However, in March the tribe was ruled in favor of by a federal court.
The governor announced that a gaming compact has been signed between the state
and the tribe. The compact would allow for a proposed casino. In addition the
compact also gives information on revenue sharing for the local area.
