A plan that would build a casino near Rohnert Park became one step closer to
happening. The compact between the governor and the Federated Indians of Graton
Rancheria was agreed upon and approved by the California state Assembly. The
compact was one of the needed steps that would allow for the casino to be built.
Supporters of the casino see the project as a way to help the community. Union
leaders have been among some of the strongest supporters. The casino will be the
largest in California and cost over $700 million to build. Hiring will need to
begin right away.900 Construction jobs will be created. As well as 2,000
permanent jobs.
A vote of 64 to 3 was approved by the Assembly. Now the federal government will
need to give the final approval. It is expected that the final approval will be
given.
