A shared benefit fund is currently being planned by Harrah's Rincon Hotel and Casino. Money from the fund could possibly earn the county millions of dollars. The purpose behind the fund is to directly help local area needs opposed to the needs of the state.

Rincon Casino had been contributing earnings to the state's general fund. The casino had gone to court and after six years it was decided to by unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. The ruling occurred in June of this year.

The current goal of the casino is to help put money earned back into the community. The money could be used for county fire protection, police, programs for gambling addiction, and improvements to infrastructure.

If approved by the County Board of Supervisors, the fund may earn the county between $3 and $8 million a year. The next step for approval for the fund if it is approved will be to meet with the state's governor.

The vote to approve the fund will take place on October 11 with the County Board of Supervisors.
