ALPINE, CA - Construction has begun to convert five vacant stores in the Viejas
outlet mall into a 12-lane bowling center and bar. Officials have not decided
whether or not to put slot machines in the 16,000-square-foot facility.
"What doesn't work anymore is just retail shopping," said Peter M. Cortese,
general manager of the outlet center and VP of property management. "We look for
these different components to make it more successful. This here is a natural
progression."
"Now the whole family can come," Cortese said. "If dad wants to go to the
casino, that's fine."
