SAN JACINTO, CA - The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) has warned the Soboba tribe that further violence on their reservation could force the closure of their casino. This follows two law enforcement shootouts on the reservation that that killed three tribal members.
NIGC Chairman, Phil Hogen, confirmed today that he and his staff have talked with the Soboba Band of Luiseņo Indians about the shootouts. "If it looks like it's going to put life and limb at risk ... closure of the facility might be necessary." However, he added that closure would be the "worst-case scenario."
Soboba Chairman Robert Salgado said Friday he has asked Hogen to send an NIGC inspector from Washington DC to review and settle any concerns held by the commission.
