A resolution has been agreed upon by the Glendale City Council in regards to the
proposed casino. The city has given the approval for the Tohono O'Odham Nation
to build their casino.
The council voted on Tuesday. They voted 4 to 3 in favor of building the casino
in the entertainment and sports district of the city.
It is estimated that the Glendale casino will raise $300 million for the area
Since 2009 the Tohono O'Odham has tried to make the casino a reality. During
that time the tribe has faced opposition. One of the groups opposed to the plan
is the Gila River Indian Community. They claim that the casino will violate
Arizona laws and zoning laws. In 2002 a compact was passed by voters that would
prevent the metro Phoenix area from developing additional casinos.
