The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community opened its $440 million, 15-story Talking Stick Resort today. The 240,000-square-foot Casino Arizona gambling hall replaces a 120,000-square-foot, temporary structure that housed the casino for 11 years.
The casino features 800 slot machines, 50 table games, 10 lounges and 8 restaurants. There is an all-day buffet, a cigar and martini bar and the Orange Sky fine-dining restaurant on the 15th floor.
The showroom hosts 640 seats and has scheduled performances with George Clinton, Brian Wilson, Clint Black, Smokey Robinson, Cheap Trick and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
The hotel will open half its rooms this week. The remainder will open by June 10. All rooms are non-smoking. Room prices range from $100 to $300 for a standard room depending on the season up to $3,500 for a 2,000-square-foot presidential suite.
