RIVERTON, WY – Wyoming jumped to the fourth fastest growing state in 2008 gambling revenues with an increase of 39% as reported in the Indian Gaming Industry Report published last month by Nathan Associates Inc. The primary reason for growth was a 53 percent increase in gaming machines at Wyoming’s Indian casinos. Total machines increased to 1,245 as a new casino opened and others added more machines. In 2008 the Northern Arapaho Tribe opened its flagship Wind River Casino, adding to its 789 Casino and Smoke Shop and the Little Wind Casino in Ethete. The report did not include specific revenue figures for Wyoming due to confidentiality restrictions. "The introductions of new gaming facilities drove a lot of growth in the fastest growing states," it said. The report also predicted continued growth for Wyoming's Indian gaming industry. "Wyoming is likely to see continued growth for the near future as new gaming facilities develop in a very young market," it said. The report said the nationwide Indian casino industry took in $26.8 billion in 2008 gaming revenue, an increase of 1.5 percent over 2007. "The economic downturn is even taking its toll on Indian gaming, which has historically performed better than most other segments of the gaming industry," it said. Return to Wyoming Casinos. |
