Court Blocks Large Indian Casino near La Center

December 16, 2007

OLYMPIA, WA - A Superior Court judge upheld a June decision that stopped a 2004 agreement by the county for the Cowlitz Tribe to build a giant casino complex near La Center. The location is 152-acres along Interstate 5.

County commissioners are now expected to review their option to appeal their case to the Washington Court of Appeals or negotiate a new agreement with the tribe.

The new casino is opposed by La Center’s four cardrooms, whose profits are among the highest of all cardrooms in the state.
