BENSALEM, PA - The new $250 million Parx Casino opened Friday replacing the temporary slots parlor, the PhiladelphiaPark Casino and Racetrack, which opened three years ago.

The new facility is a larger and fancier upgrade. It features a 120,000-square foot gaming floor with 3,300 slot machines and 176 electronic table games. There are also three restaurants, a sports bar and a live entertainment venue.

Spokeswoman Carrie Nork Minelli says Parx has plans to add a hotel, a nightclub and retail space. She also says they are ready to add table games when approved by the state legislature. Governor Ed Rendell is pushing lawmakers to legalize table games, and he has threatened to lay off state workers if the law is not in place by January.

Two other casinos are on schedule to open in Pennsylvania next year. The proposed SugarHouse Casino will open on Philadelphia's waterfront and a smaller casino resort will open at the Valley Forge Convention Center in Montgomery County. They will bring the state total to 11 casinos.
