Wednesday was the opening of the River Spirit Event Center. The renovations cost $250,000 on a building that many thought would not be used again. The center will host a variety of musical and sporting events. On Friday the event center will hold its opening event, “Rumble on the River” presented by Dale “Apollo” Cook. It will be a fighting event of mixed martial arts. On August 24 Meatloaf will perform. Tanya Tucker will also perform on September 2. The event center holds a capacity of 2,800 people. It is part of the refurbished 19,000 square foot addition. It was built on the site of the previous Muscogee Nation’s previous casino. The tribe had closed this part of the facility when the new multimillion dollar River Spirit Casino opened. In 2009 the River Spirit Casino opened. It is known as one of the largest casinos in the state. With the opening of the new event center the Creek Nation is hoping to make the casino a destination spot.
