May 12, 2009 OKLAHOMA CITY - The federal Bureau of Indian Affairs is considering a request by the Shawnee to transfer land near Remington Park horse racing track in Oklahoma City into federal trust. If approved, the tribe will build a Las Vegas-style hotel and casino at that site. The federal Bureau of Indian Affairs is receiving letters of opposition to the proposal. Letters have come from politicians, educators, business leaders and citizens who have reasons to fight against a casino. Some say a casino near Remington Park will kill the track. Remington Park GM Scott Wells says it could end horse racing in Oklahoma. Return to Oklahoma Casinos home page. |
