Columbus casino site purchased in Arena District

COLUMBUS - The company bringing a casino to Columbus, Penn National Gaming, said Friday it has completed the purchase of a 24-acre site in the city's Arena District.

A spokesman for Penn National said the company is seriously exploring other possible sites, but it will not be easy to change locations after purchasing the Arena District land.

Voters approved Issue 3 on the November ballot last year which specified the location of the Columbus casino. A new amendment must be approved by voters to change the location.

Mayor Michael Coleman has recommended four alternative sites around Columbus, including a distressed shopping mall and a former minor-league baseball stadium.
