Ground was broken today for the new aqueduct casino, Resorts World New York.
Present at the ceremony was state Govener, David Paterson. As well as Genting
chairman K.T. Lim, elected officials, members of the state's gaming and racing
operations, as local residents. All were present to support the first casino to
be located in New York City.
Annual revenue from the casino is expected to bring in $300 million annually for
the state. Money from this will go to education. The goal is to bring a world
class tourism and entertainment to New York.
The project will employ 2,100 people. 1,300 people will be hired for the
construction of the facility. Job fairs will be held for 800 permanent
employees.
Construction will occur quickly. The casino will feature 4,525 video lottery
terminals. Many will be operational within six months. There are also plans for
an enclosed skybridge that will connect the "A" train to the casino entrance.
This with the rest of the exterior and interior reservations are scheduled to be
completed in 18 months.
