Shinnecocks want 3 casinos on Long Island

September 29, 2010

The Shinnecock Indian Nation has plans to build 3 new casinos in the Long Island area. Huntington real estate agents will told of this on Wednesday by the tribe’s Gaming Authority. A presentation was made to a 200 real estate agents event with information on the type of properties the tribe is looking for.

The Gaming Authority would not say where the properties are that the tribe is interested in. However some of the possible locations include Shirley’s Brookhaven Calabro Airport, Belmont Racetrack, Nassau Coliseum, and Calverton’s Grumman property. Any property that the tribe will consider must be at least 35 acres.

Currently the Seneca Nation has a compact with the state that they can operate up to 3 casinos. The Shinnecocks have been meeting with Govern David Paterson’s office to negotiate a similar agreement.
