January 28, 2010 ACOMA, NM – A ground-breaking ceremony was held last week by the Acoma Business Enterprises to begin construction of the Sun and Sky Natural Amphitheatre. The site is next to the Sky City Hotel Casino at Exit 102 on I-40 east from Grants. This will be the state’s first solar-powered outdoor entertainment venue. Solar energy will be converted to electricity to provide heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and lighting. The first phase could open in May 2010. Plans include a 60-fet by 40-feet stage with 1,500 portable seats. There will also be a picnic area and a new parking area. The final phase will accommodate 4,500 seats. Date to be announced. For more information of the project and Acoma Pueblo, go to www.skycity.com. Return to New Mexico Casinos. |
