On October 08 a public hearing is scheduled to take place in regards to the
Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians proposed casino. The Mackinaw City
Public School will be te location of the hearing.
The proposed casino would be either a Class II or Class III gaming facility. It
would be located at the previous Thunder Falls Water Park property.
By 2020, over 200 gaming machines would be in operation.
Construction would take place in 2016.
If a Class III casino is approved, the Village of Mackinaw City will be eligible
to receive 2% earned from the gross gaming profits. A Class II would not allow
any money to be paid to the city.
The state gaming authority would need to give approval for for a Class III
tribal casino. This would allow for the operation of table games in addition to
the slot machines.
The proposed casino would earn an estimated $250,000 for Mackinaw City and
employ 100 people.
