New Standish Casino Opened New Years Eve

January 2, 2008

STANDISH - The new Saganing Eagle's Landing Casino near Standish quietly opened on New Year's Eve. There was no public announcement or advertisement preceding the opening.

It was reported earlier in December the opening would be delayed and to check their website for an update. A tribal spokesman Joe Sowmick said the opening will be set by the Tribal council and is “some time away”.  Their website still says "Opening Soon!  Keep visiting this page for the latest information on our opening date!"

So with no announcement the casino opened New Years Eve.  Visitors learned by word of mouth and by New Years Day the crowd increased and reached capacity by 2pm.  An announcement was made inside the casino for players to limit themselves to one slot machine.  Parking overflowed as cars were parked along the roadway.
