A proposal to build a casino in Oxford County has qualified for the November ballot, according to Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap.

Dunlap says the casino supporters have turned in enough valid signatures for the ballot. There were 79,731 signatures accepted, and 17,813 ruled invalid. The minimum needed is 55,087.

The proposal will now go to the legislature for a vote to decide whether or not to place it on the ballot.

In 2008 voters rejected a proposal to build a casino in Oxford County. A similar bill was later introduced in the legislature and defeated.

Black Bear Entertainment is proposing the casino in Oxford County. The opposition is led by Casinos No, an anti-gambling group.
