Beshear Says Casino Bill DeadMarch 31, 2008FRANKFORT, KY - Gov. Steve Beshear says a bill to legalize casinos in Kentucky does not have enough support among lawmakers to pass in the current legislative session. The casino legislation is House Bill 550. The governor had advocated a constitutional amendment to legalize casinos, which he said would generate up to $600 million a year in new state revenue. However, in an unscheduled press conference last Thursday evening, he pronounced the measure dead. If passed by the legislature, Kentucky voters would have been given to opportunity to ratify or reject the proposal in a ballot referendum. Return to Kentucky Casinos. |
