Sumner County begins new casino search
December 12, 2008
WICHITA – The partnership of Harrah's Entertainment and Sumner Gaming and
Resorts, withdrew its proposal for a casino near Mulvane last month citing the
poor economy. As a result the Kansas Lottery will issue new procedural and
review guidelines for accepting new applications for a casino in Sumner County.
The lottery will recommend April 1 as the new due date for Sumner County casino
applications, and the lottery commission will consider the recommendation next
week.
They will also recommend publishing the revised casino application and review
procedures for Sumner County in the state's official newspaper, the Kansas
Register, on January 1. That action will officially re-open the bidding process.
Applications would be due 90 days later by April 1.
