Mulvane Casino Plan is Endorsed by City Council

January 17, 2008

MULVANE, KS – A proposal by Harrah's Entertainment-Sumner Gaming and Resort to build a casino resort near the Mulvane exit of the Kansas Turnpike was endorsed by the City Council last night. Their vote was 3-2.

The proposal is to build a 70,000-square-foot casino with more than 2,000 slot machines and 50 gaming tables. It includes two hotels with a total of 275 rooms, a spa, shopping, pool, entertainment and restaurants.

The new state gambling law requires endorsements from cities or counties before proposals are submitted to the Kansas Lottery. Harrah’s proposal will now be sent to the Lottery to compete with two proposals for casinos near the Wellington turnpike exit. Those plans have been endorsed by the Sumner County Commission.

There is another proposal pending by MGM Mirage-Foxwoods Development-Chisholm Creek Ventures for a $425 casino project near the Mulvane exit. This plan needs annexation for city council endorsement.
