Miami’s Park West neighborhood may have a casino in the future
October 12, 2008
The manager of Park West’s complex has stated that a casino is not an option.
However, a committee has been formed to help push for one in the future. The
committee has been formed to change the state’s constitution regarding gambling
laws.
As of now, gambling is illegal in Miami – Dade County. A constitutional
amendment would be necessary in order to allow this.
Already the committee has raised $1.2 million. They have received $30,000 from
Miami Beach’s Fontainebleau Hotel. This hotel is on a list of sites that would
be allowed to have full casino gambling under the proposed constitutional
amendment.
The referendum could possibly be on the 2010 ballot.
