Recently announced by a B.C. government official, a new destination casino and hotel project will soon be built. The B.C. Place casino will be located next to the newly renovated BC Place Stadium. Built on the vacant 2 acre parcel that is west of B.C. Place and the Cambie Bridge.

When completed the property will consist of a two story 110,000 square foot casino operating 24 hours a day. As well two hotels and 5 restaurants.

B.C. Premier Gordon Cambell, whom announced the plans, states the project will create thousands of jobs. Estimating 3,200 direct and 2,220 indirect jobs during construction. Then another 1,900 direct and 1,300 indirect jobs when the facility is opened. It is also estimated that the casino will earn $130 million in gaming revenues in its first operating year.

A rezoning application is waiting the final approval before construction can begin. It is estimated that it will take several years before completion. However they are hopeful to open by 2013.
