River Cree Casino Fights Smoking BanEDMONTON – The Enoch Cree Nation will fight the new smoking ban with their own bylaw to allow smoking in the River Cree Casino. This follows similar action taken by the Tsuu T'ina Nation to allow smoking in their Calgary casino. The bylaw will give Enoch Cree leaders the jurisdiction to designate special areas where smoking is permitted. All other public areas on the reserve will be banned. The bylaw will be reviewed by the minister of Indian and Northern Affairs, a process of about forty days. A spokesman for the minister said “when two pieces of legislation contradict each other, the bylaw on federal lands takes precedence." Return to Alberta Casinos. |
