Earlier this year Gov. Schwarzenegger negotiated new Indian gaming compacts with four Southern California tribes. These agreements were ratified by the State Legislature and approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior. The compacts must now be approved by voters as referendums in the February 5th election.
If passed, the four tribes can install an additional slot machines and , in exchange, the tribes will pay the state a higher percentage of revenues. The combined total of new slot machines will be 17,500, and the projected revenue to the state will be $16 billion over the term of the agreement ending December 31, 2030. In addition the projected wages paid will be $44.5 billion, and the number of jobs will be 875,000 (Source: www.yesforcalifornia.com).
