National Chief Phil Fontaine Gala Dinner
Winnipeg, Manitoba
On behalf of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, I wish to inform all First Nations
leadership and citizens of a Special Gala Evening honouring National Chief Phil
Fontaine on June 16, 2008 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
This gala, a first regional honouring of National
Chief Fontaine, will raise funds for the Agnes and JB Fontaine Scholarship, set
up in honour of National Chief Fontaine’s parents. This scholarship provides
post-secondary funding to First Nation students, over 1000 of whom in Manitoba
are on waiting lists to access funding for school.
This Gala evening brings home Phil Fontaine, whose
accomplishments have taken him around the world, but who always remains close to
his roots at Sagkeeng First Nation. Speakers and presentations will recall
Phil\'s early years in politics, his increasing fame in Manitoba and later his
inspirational presence on the national and international stage.
Join us in celebrating the life and times of this
great leader.
